RAW → PNG
Export camera RAW (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG) as PNG
Why RAW → PNG?
RAW images from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and other cameras aren't supported by all programs. This converter instantly turns them into the universal PNG format – with full quality preservation. Your file is deleted from the server immediately after conversion.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a RAW file?
RAW is the unprocessed image format used by many professional and semi-professional cameras. It stores all sensor data without compression, offering the highest image quality. Common RAW formats include CR2 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), and DNG (Adobe).
Which RAW formats are supported?
The converter supports common RAW formats: CR2 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), DNG (Adobe), ORF (Olympus), RW2 (Panasonic), PEF (Pentax), SRW (Samsung), and RAF (Fujifilm).
Are my RAW files stored on the server?
No, your RAW files are immediately deleted from the server after conversion. No permanent storage.
Why PNG and not JPG?
PNG is a lossless format that preserves the full quality of your RAW image. JPG compresses the image – great for the web, but not ideal when you want maximum quality from your RAW data.
Is the conversion free?
Yes, wandlio.de is completely free. No sign-up, no limits, no ads.
About PNG
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) was released in 1996 as an open standard and developed as a patent-free alternative to GIF after Unisys demanded licensing fees for the LZW algorithm used in GIF in 1994. PNG uses lossless compression based on the Deflate algorithm and supports up to 16 bits per channel as well as full-color transparency through a dedicated alpha channel. The format is particularly suited for graphics with sharp edges, text, logos, and screenshots – anywhere JPEG would produce artifacts through its lossy compression. PNG does not support animation; this gap is filled by the unofficial APNG format, which is supported by most browsers. The interlaced variant (Adam7) enables progressive loading where a coarse preview becomes visible even with minimal data transferred. PNG is the de facto standard for lossless web graphics and is supported by all browsers, operating systems, and image editing programs. For photography, however, PNG is inefficient since file sizes are significantly larger compared to JPEG or WebP, which is why PNG is primarily used for graphics and screenshots.
About Camera RAW
RAW files are the unprocessed sensor data from a digital camera, saved without compression or processing. Each manufacturer uses its own RAW format - CR3 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), DNG (Adobe) - with proprietary encoding. Adobe DNG (Digital Negative) was proposed in 2004 as an open standard for RAW files and has been adopted by some manufacturers like Leica and Samsung. RAW offers maximum dynamic range and post-processing flexibility, preserving all sensor data at 12 to 14 bits per channel. File sizes are substantial - typically 20 to 50 MB per image. RAW requires specialized software for development such as Adobe Camera Raw, Capture One, or Darktable and is usually converted to JPG, TIFF, or PNG for sharing or printing. For photographers, RAW is the quality format; for everyone else, converting to JPG is the standard approach. RAW plus JPEG capture enables both formats simultaneously.
Why convert RAW → PNG?
RAW files (CR2 from Canon, NEF from Nikon, ARW from Sony, DNG as open standard) contain unprocessed camera sensor data with full dynamic range. They're huge (25-80 MB per image), proprietary, and can't be opened without specialized software (Lightroom, Capture One, RawTherapee). Converting to PNG creates a developed, universally readable version with standard color profiles that you can share, print, publish on the web, or embed in documents. PNG is the standard format for final output of RAW photography. PNG supports lossless compression and alpha transparency, making it ideal for graphics, screenshots, and images with transparent areas.
